Tuesday Night Bowling – A Tale of Two 1/8’s

Hello Folks, another issue of Chris’ Cannabis Corner. Tuesdays are bowling nights for some of us, and I decided we would sample two new strains for bowling night and see how they compared. Today we will be reviewing:

Baby Turtle by Khalifa Kush and Babby Powder by NEA Fire

Baby Turtle by Khalifa Kush: Baby Turtle is put out by the legendary Khalifa Kush cultivator.  It’s a cross of Khalifa Kush and Jokerz #31. This is categorized as a Hybrid.

1. Smell – Fair amount of Gas, but if you read my review of the Durban poison not as strong. There are some amazing grassy and straw under notes with a nice pepper tinge. If I close my eyes I imagine vast fields of wheat swaying in the breeze. Like in that scene from Gladiator where Maximus is imagining being back home on his ancestral farm –

2. Appearance – Drier than some other 1/8’s I’ve tried, but not crispy. The buds do give a nice little squeeze. There is some trichome dusting the buds have a faint red tinge to them. The product grinds up very nice and the grinds can be squeezed and they stick together a little bit.

3. Taste – Very, very nice. My bowling team mentioned notes like: earthy, minty, peppery, grassy, loamy. All true. All in all a very nice tasting joint.

4. The High –  Man-o-man is this stuff good. A few of us found ourselves high after really just the first two hits.  In general I found this strain to be more of a sativa leaning hybrid. We all felt great, happy and in fact, we all bowled MUCH better after that joint. Note: I can vouch for at least three of us that this strain does deliver some serious munchies. I ate a mountain of bowling ally food and then when I got home I still DoorDashed, a burrito on top of everything that I already ate  and finished off the night with a bowl of Fudge Ripple ice cream.

What did I finish off the night watching? Chopped of course (just couldn’t get food off my mind!)

Babby Powder by NEA Fire (I):  So, Babby powder does share a common ancestor as Baby Turtle. The Khalifa Kush is the common relative, but in this strain it is crossed with Georgia Pie. Georgia Pie is often described as smelling and tasting like peach cobbler. Well folks, I did NOT get a single whiff of that in this.

1. Smell – Deep earthy notes at first whiff. There is some fruit/citrus in there as well, but it was hard to identify as to what actual smell it was. But the predominant main smell I get is like a rich beautiful grassy smell. Like perfect straw bales at a fall corn maze in New England. Good stuff. Just imagine what this might smell like and that is what you kind of get –

2. Appearance – The package was not labeled as smalls, but my particular 1/8th just had mostly smallish to medium sized mugs. The buds were a nice darker green. While the buds were not crispy they were also not very sticky, But they ground up real nice into a good semi course grind with a nice fluff.

3. Taste – My smoking mates had some of these nuggets of detail about the taste: “it’s like breakfast! I’m getting a bacon and eggs vibe”. “Dusty man, something dusty in there”.  Little of the citrus smell came through when smoked, for me the primary flavor was kind of that grassy dust flavor. Not bad, just kind of faint and non memorable.

4. The High –  This is a real indica.   Some of us were yawning within minutes of smoking it.   And I will tell you folks, this strain is NOT good for increasing your bowling average. We, collectively, bowled pretty crappy after smoking the Babby Powder. Now, its possible that this strain might be good for something else, like knitting, watching TV, or chilling to music, but we were at a bowling Alley, so I can only say, “don’t smoke Babby Powder and go bowling!”

Favorite track to listen to while high on this: Stand Up by King Canyon (and guests)

Happy smoking folks!

Chris
